The Government on Saturday night geared up to take oga guru Ramdev head on after he went on an indefinite fast here and broke the deal to announce wi

thdrawal of the satyagraha on black money and corruption by converting into " tap" ( prayers and chant) from Saturday through Monday.

Both accused each other of " betrayal," the government saying the Baba did not keep his word while the Baba said the letter his aide gave was only for the eyes of the Prime Minister and not made public to discredit it.

He refused to be intimidated even if he were arrested.

The deal was that the Baba would announce converting the satyagraha into religious chants on Saturday afternoon, but he did not as he faulted the letter the government gave in return.

Union Ministers Kapil Sibal and Subodh Sahay engaged in talks with him said they are compelled to release the 2- page commitment signed by the Baba’s principal aide Acharya Balakrishna with his consent after the 5- hour long talks in a hotel here on Friday. Sibal and Sahay said they kept telephoning the Baba’s aides throughout the afternoon, wanting him to announce end of the satyagraha but he didn’t and hence they decided to make public the commitment he had made.
