Sarvankar, who was a MLA from Dadar between 2004- 2009, defected to the Congress in 2009 after being denied an assembly ticket

In a bid to regain lost ground in its former bastion of Dadar,

the Shiv Sena has wooed its former MLA Sada Sarvankar back into the party fold. Sarvankar who had defected into the Congress in 2009 after being denied an assembly ticket from the area was inducted back into the party on Tuesday.

” I have been a Shiv Sainik for 40 years. My exit from the Sena and stay in the Congress was a political accident that I have put it behind me. I am glad Uddhavsaheb has taken me back into the Sena fold and I will work for the party with the same zeal like before,” Sarvankar told FPJ. Upset over refusal of nomination from the Dadar- Mahim constituency, Sarvankar, a sitting Sena MLA had defected to the Congress in the face of the assembly elections in October 2009. Sarvankar had fallen out with the Sena leadership after they denied him a ticket from the area and nominated Adesh Bandhekar, a popular Marathi TV show host in his place. Bandhekar lost the elections, and Sarvankars defection helped the Raj Thackeray- led MNSalt39 Nitin Sardesai win the polls. Sarvankar also had an apparent fallout with veteran Sena leader Manohar Joshi, who has been the Senas point man in Dadar for long.

” Now that I am back, we will regain the lost ground in Dadar and bring the Sena back to its original dominant position in the area,” Sarvankar added.

Sarvankar was a MLA from Dadar between 2004- 2009 before which the Senas former Mayor Vishakha Raut held the seat. In the recent BMC polls, the Sena had lost all seven seats from the region to arch rival MNS. ” Right since the BMC polls debacle, the party was looking for a new face in Dadar. But we didnalt39t have anyone to take on the MNS. Since Sarvankar was a former Sena man he was the best bet,” said a senior Sena functionary.

Sarvankars son Samadhan who had contested the BMC polls on a Congress ticket lost the elections from ward 182 in Mahim also joined the Sena.

Samadhan is likely to be accommodated in the Aaditya Thackeray- led Yuva Sena.
