Officials asked to address malnutrition seriously in Ujjain


Ujjain: Joint collector, Sujan Singh Rawat in coordination with the nodal officer of the district hospital have issued stern a warning to the health and woman and child development department officials and asked them address the issue of malnutrition in the district to seriously.

They called upon officials to conduct a survey of malnourished children in the district, the outcome of which in turn would encourage parents to admit their kids into nutrition rehabilitation centres. A list of the parents who are unable to admit their children into these centres should be prepared, they said.

Nutritionist Sonal Thakur of Madhav Nagar hospital detailing the essentials of a nutritious meal at the meeting said, child nourishment is a great challenge. Malnutrition she added, was caused by social and economical aspects,as well as lack of education and health facilities, unavailability of nutritious food, poverty, irrelevant cultural traditions and habits.This lead to several deformities in grow that the age of 5, and stunted growth of the fetus in womb, among others. CMHO and civil surgeon in-charge, Dr ML Malviya and others were present.
