An election officer, who stopped Priyanka Gandhis husband Robert Vadra from taking out a bike rally in Uttar Pradesh on Monday, has been transferred to Goa. Sources said it was a punishment posting for ta
king on Vadra.
The Election Commission, however, said that the transfer was routine and the officer in question had been elevated. It also said that the transfer has been withheld till elections are over in UP. The officer had reportedly stopped Vadras motorbike rally in Salon area of Amethi. The poll officials stopped the convoy as it had more than the permissible number of vehicles under the code of conduct.
However, the transfer of Pawan Sen, IAS officer of 2005 batch, has raised eyebrows as he had also ordered filing of an FIR against the local Congress candidate in the assembly poll. The CEC, however, maintained: ‘Todays incident is unrelated to the observers transfer. It has nothing to do with it. The Election Commission had during its meeting on Monday morning decided that Sen be posted as Deputy Commissioner in South Goa, after receiving complaints from various political parties about the conduct of the present DC in South Goa’. ‘We asked the state government to suggest some names and among them was Sens name.alt39’The EC finalized Sens name in the morning. The incident in which Robert Vadra was involved happened in the evening and had nothing to do with Sens transfer,alt39alt39the CEC added.
