If you were planning to commute by train on the Western Railway ( WR) this Sunday then you will have to make alternate transport arrangements as a six- hour mega block has been planned on Sunday.
ock will be operated to facilitate the final switch- over from Direct Current ( DC) to Alternate current ( AC).
” The block will be operated from 10: 30am to 4: 30pm between Andheri and Churchgate stations. Although the entire line has been converted to AC, the switch- over from DC to AC will take place on Sunday,” said a WR official on condition of anonymity.
Earlier, WR operated such a megablock on November 13 for DC- AC conversion between Bhayander and Bandra.
It was too for six hours but was completed before time. The block scheduled to end at 4: 30pm ended at 3: 10pm.
Long distance trains on the WR will not need to change engines and will be able to run through seamlessly after Sunday. ” DC traction will be a thing of past on WR soon. This will have many benefits – one of them being increase in speed to 100kmph,” said the official.
” In this phase, the distance between Andheri and Churchgate is longer than Bhayander and Bandra and so will have much work for us but we will ensure to complete the work in time,” added the official.
