Ujjain: A meeting of the biodiversity committee, chaired by divisional commissioner Ravindra Pastor, on conserving grasslands was held on Monday. Pastor stressed on the need to conserve grasslands in the Ujjain district by keeping alive the flora and fauna. He also announced the setting up of a bio diversity park at VikramVatika, by the forest department during the meeting.
District collectors were directed to conserved grasslands located in their respective districts. Suggestions of people working for the welfare of the environment in each district would be invited and would be linked to the bio diversity project, Pastor said. He added that it was necessary to create plantations on either side of the Kshipra from Trivedi to Kaliadeh, to stop soil erosion.
Use of pesticides should be lessened to conserve the bio diversity and insecticides made of cow urine should be used and promoted among the farmers, the meet decided.Ban on the net fishing and promotion oflarge nets were also discussed. Divisional forest officer Rajiv Mishra, joint commissioner Prateek Sonwalkar, committee member prof SK Billore and others were present during the meeting.
