City records coldest day as mercury dips to 17.5 degree Celsius

Ujjain: The prevailing cold weather condition in city broke the record of last eight years on Saturday after minimum temperature dipped to the lowest of the season 17.5 degree Celsius. Minimum temperature in the day during the month of January was recorded as 20.2 degree Celsius.

Severe cold condition prevailed in the region for last few days as unseasonal rains lashed the city.The sky remained overcast on Saturday also. Denizens were expecting sunny day on Saturday.Though, the temperature during night was recorded at 14.5 degree Celsius on Friday night. The cold intensified after dense clouds enveloping the city. Meteorological department informed that climate would remain same till February 10 and more rains are likely.

The coldest day recorded during the last few years are: January 7, 2013 when temperature dipped to 21 degree Celsius. Temperature dipped to 20.2 degree Celsius on January 1, 2012 and it was 23.2 degree Celsius on January 4, 2011.


Saturday weather broke all the previous records. It is believed that after the Makar Sankranti festival, temperature started rising gradually.But this year, there is no change in the cold condition.
