City of Lakes turns into “City of Potholes”; Corporators helpless


The recent spell of torrential rains has worsened the condition of the alreadydamaged roads of the City of Lakes, converti

ng it into a ” City of potholes”. Potholes and debris are causing problems for the road- users particularly in the night. Vehicles either skid or meet with road accident. Though BMC administration has instructed for filling up of the potholeswith rubbles but itwill take time for the work to be completed.

The entire stretch of road from Peer Gate to Moti Masjid, identified for construction of flyover under ward no- 19, has been completely damaged as upper layer of bitumen has been short out. Either it has developed potholes or torrential rain has washed away the upper layer of bitumen and badly damaged the roads.

Heavy rush of vehicles including low- floor buses has worn out the congested road. The parental house of BJP heavy- weight Kailash Sarang and sitting MLA Vishwas Sarang is also located in the same ward. The area is not only politically high- profile but also religiously important as Curfew- wali Mata temple is also there. Somwara Chowk has been one of prominentmeeting point of Muslims and Hindus as they assemble there for every cause – be it celebrations or protest. But in spite of it, no attention is being paid to improve the condition of roads in the area. The Pandit of the temple said that local Corporator should take prompt initiative

initiative for getting the road repaired as devotees face problems. Bikers face more problems as road have been damaged badly. They said that lack of parking is already problem and now worn and torn road has compounded the problems.

From time to time, temple management organises religious problems and heavy rush of devotees always face problems.

As the road also leads to Chowk Bazar and Jumerati so it has to bear greater traffic pressure. The businessmen also blamed the Bhopal Municipal Corporation ( BMC) administration for its lethargic attitude. They said that Corporator should mount pressure on BMC administration for repairing the road.

Rajesh Jain, one of jewellers, said, ” It is very problematic to negotiate the traffic in entire areas and it is more pathetic that no one takes interest in getting it repaired.” According to the vendors of eatables, damaged roads are a big headache for people.

It is already congested.

Heavy vehicles damage the road and torrential rain has further damaged it. The potholes- studded roads pose serious problems to people.

Corporator Radha Singhal said, ” It is useless to get the potholes filled with rubble as it is rainy season. At present, nothing is possible. After rain, we can do something for repairing the road. If I instruct BMC administration for filling the debris and potholes with rubble, it will spread mud and will create more problems for the peoplealt39.
