The current generation has only heard of Polaroids, or at best has known them to be those ‘cool looking frames’ offered on many Android and iOS photo-editing apps. But kids of the 70s and 80s who grew up with Polaroids, will testify to how cool it was to snap a picture, instantly print it, and autograph it for display on their scrapbooks. While digital photographs can be snapped instantly, and are virtually forever, printing them hasn’t been all that easy until now.
Presenting the YuPix Compact Printer, from the house of Yu, a Micromax sub-brand. This multifunction, iOS and Android compatible, mobile photo printer is the latest in a line of add-ons to Yu’s highly successful range of phones, the Yureka series. With an emphasis on smart living and being kid-friendly, the Yu range of products has seriously raised the bar for domestic cell phone makers. The added emphasis on quality and build at an affordable price point has seen the Yu range of smartphones really shake up the market.
Yu now seeks to augment its already successful product portfolio with an accessory, which adds a charm factor to the reliability and funkiness, it has come to be associated with. The YuPix Compact printer can print photographs in under 60 seconds, at a 291 dpi or 2.5 MP clarity, at a size of around 2.1 x 3.4 inches. While this may not seem like a lot, it does make for an interesting memento or a quirky souvenir. The printer uses what is called a dye sublimation technology to print photographs and is claimed to be waterproof. The YuPix Compact printer is powered by a 750 mAh Li-On battery and weighs 273 grams. The YuPix Compact printer is said to sync directly with your phone through the YuPix App available on the Play Store and iTunes.
While the real world applications of a tiny photo and document printer are limited, let’s not write off the YuPix Compact just yet. It does have a few things going for it. For starters it will retail at Rs. 6999/- on Amazon. Secondly its handy size means supreme portability. Thirdly, knowing the current generation’s affinity for all things quirky, this little device might yet make a cult hit, even if it is only amongst hipsters or those missing the glory days of the then cutting edge polaroid!
