Matheran is a quiet and peaceful hill station tucked away in the Western Ghats known for its red soil and gorgeous climate. The hill station is surrounded by lush hills, a variety of hotels and guesthouses, street markets and monkeys. In short, it is a perfect getaway. If this was not enough, Central Railway will give you more reasons to plan your next trip to Matheran. It plans to build homestays, exhibit local art and culture and construct several tourist points. It is also said that the toy trains will have AC and vista-dome coaches. Along with Maharashtra’s history, the heritage galleries will show the evolution of toy trains in India.
Talking about the project to The Free Press Journal, a senior official of the Central Railway said that the stretch between Neral and Matheran will be developed to showcase the rich culture and history of the state. The homestays will be made at the locals’ place for tourists. While the provisions showcasing the art, culture, and history will be displayed along the railway lines.
Services of the famous toy train services were resumed last year in October, almost a year after the derailments. Currently, the services run between Aman Lodge and Matheran station and there are limited trips between the Neral and Matheran stations.
