    New Delhi : Idea Cellular and Vodafone on Friday announced completion of the $23.2 billion (approximately Rs 1.6 lakh crore) merger of their India operations to create the country’s largest telecom operator to take on competition from Reliance Jio.

    New Delhi: The merger of Idea Cellular and Vodafone India has been completed, creating India’s biggest telecom service provider with over 408 million subscribers, the two companies said today. A new board has been constituted for the merged entity “Vodafone Idea Ltd’ with 12 directors (including six independent directors) and Kumar Mangalam Birla as its Chairman. The board has appointed Balesh Sharma as the CEO, the companies said in a joint statement.

    Mumbai : The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) on Thursday approved the merger of Idea Cellular and Vodafone, according to sources. The merged entity may start trading as a listed entity if it receives NCLT order on Thursday, the sources said, adding both the companies would exercise joint control and equal voting rights.

This is a previously announced acquisition of Vodafone India’s telecom site business, which consists of approximately 10,200 communications sites, for a total cash consideration of about Rs 38

    New Delhi: The merger plan of telecom operators Vodafone India and Idea Cellular is in the “final stage of approval”, Telecom Secretary Aruna Sundararajan said today. The mega merger has already received the green light from NCLT and markets regulator SEBI, and according to Sundararajan, the telecom department “is in the process of expediting it”.
