    Ujjain: The city sizzled as mercury hovered above 43 degrees Celsius. Tuesday was the hottest day of the season at 43.8 degrees Celsius, while on Wednesday the highest temperature recorded was 43.5 degree Celsius.

    Ujjain: Collector Manish Singh and mayor Meena Jonwal inspected the construction work of a new swimming pool behind the administrative building of Ujjain Municipal Corporation (UMC) office, on Tuesday. The collector took stock of the project and budget allotted for it, suggesting customisation of priorities.

  • Ujjain: Experts shed light on significance of bio-diversity during day-long workshop

    Ujjain: A one-day workshop on conservation and promotion of local forest species was jointly organised by the MP Biodiversity Board at the Simhastha Fair office to mark the occasion of International Biodiversity Day, on Tuesday. During the programme, chief forest conservator (research and extension), Khandwa circle, Anil Nagar gave a power point presentation on biodiversity, human welfare and rare species found in the Malwa and Nimarh regions.

  • Ujjain: Bharat Vikas Parishad’s office-bearers oath taking ceremony held

    Ujjain: Oath taking ceremony of Bharat Vikas Parishad (BVP)’s Harsiddhi branch was held at Maharaja Agrasen Bhawan. President Lata Agrawal, secretary Monika Chittoda, vice-president Bindu Bhargava, five office-bearers and nine executive members assumed office during the ceremony and international award achievers were also felicitated.

  • Ujjain: Bus operators on strike over fares, buses off roads

    Ujjain: Bus operators in Ujjain division went on a strike on Monday demanding a 40 per cent rise in bus fares owing to sharp hike in prices of fuel, while the Government restricted the rise in fares to just 10 per cent. The strike crippled bus services across Ujjain and neighbouring places, with over 450 buses going off the roads.

  • Ujjain: Saptsagar religious yatra organised

    Ujjain: Dharmayatra and Teerth Purohit Sangh organised Saptsagar Yatra (journey) on Sunday to mark the holy month ‘Purushottm maas’. The ‘yatra’ started from Harsiddhi Square in the auspicious presence of Mahamandleshwar Premanand Maharaj, Awadheshpuri Maharaj.

    Ujjain: Sanskar camp, organised by Jain community, concluded here on Sunday. They also took out a rath yatra of Chandraprabhu Swami and Ahimsa rally. According to general secretary of the organising committee Jambu Jain Dhawal, the rath yatra started from Simandhar Digambar Jain temple located in Kshirsagar area reached to Mahaveer temple located at Chimanganj Mandi area.

  • Ujjain: Sindhi community takes ‘path-breaking’ decisions over weddings

    Ujjain: Local Sindhi community has banned video and photo shoots of pre-wedding, which boys and girls make before their marriages on outer locations and display during the reception programmes. The community will impose penalties on both the parties if they found violating the ban.

  • Ujjain: Congressmen protest against rising prices of fuel

    Ujjain: Congress party workers took to the streets on Friday evening in protest against the continuous rise in prices of petrol and diesel. A funeral procession of vehicles was held in which slogans were raised against the hike in petroleum products, effected by the BJP government. They warned that if the Modi Government did not stop inflation, bigger demonstrations would be held in the coming days.

  • Ujjain: Deadly fire at Udyan Marg destroys house, charred body of woman found

    Ujjain: Fire reportedly spread in a house in Udyan Marg at Wagheshwari Colony near Wagheshwari Mata Temple on Friday morning, destroying everything in the house.  The charred body of a woman was also found in the house. The cause of fire eruption is still not clear.

  • Ujjain: Architect threatens UMC engineer

    Ujjain: An Ujjain Municipal Corporation woman sub engineer was reportedly threatened and forced by an architect over obtaining clearance for a building layout. Sub engineer Soumya Chaturvedi posted in the town planning branch in zone number 1, was allegedly threatened by architect Khalid Qureshi over granting clearance for a layout of a building.

  • Ujjain: Congress workers take to streets over Karnataka Governor’s decision

    Ujjain: Dozens of Congress workers staged a demonstration here on Thursday in protest against the Kanataka Governor’s decision to invite BJP to form a government in the state. Youth Congress State general secretary Ajit Borasi slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party for forming a government in Karnataka.

  • Ujjain: Kinkini Kirtan National Nrityotsav concludes

    Ujjain: The Kinkini Kirtan National Nrityotsav organised by Pratibha Sangeet Kala Sansthan, concluded on Wednesday at the Kalidas Academy. The programme was a competition based on Kathak and semi-classical dances, in which artists from Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Khairagarh, Haridwar, Nagpur and other cities of the country participated. Noted dancer Dr Shashi Sankhla was honoured with the Pt Kundanlal Gangani memorial Kathak nritya alankaran-2018 during the programme.

  • Ujjain: Divisional commissioner MB Ojha gets ‘emotional’ over Kshipra purification, calls it state’s moral responsibility

    Ujjain: Divisional commissioner MB Ojha held a meeting in view of the preparatory work for the Kshipra purification campaign on Thursday. An emotional Ojha, stated that no stone would be left unturned to purify the river fully. “Not a drop of dirty water will be allowed to contaminate the holy river and no one will be allowed to make the water muddy”, he said.

  • Ujjain: Women ITI building inaugurated, Bhoomi pujan for civil works organised

    Ujjain: The inauguration of the new women’s ITI building as well as boys’ hostel of the ITI (industrial training institute) was done by minister of home and transport Bhupendra Singh, on Wednesday. The boys’ hostel has been constructed at a cost of Rs 1.17 crore and the construction of women’s ITI building at Rs 4 crore.
