    Miami : Hurricane Florence is expected to become a dangerous “major hurricane” by late Monday as it heads toward the US East Coast, the National Hurricane Centre said, as states of emergency were declared in preparation for the storm. The centre of Florence was located about 1,100 kms southeast of Bermuda, the NHC in its 0300 GMT Monday advisory. Florence had maximum sustained winds of 90 mph, making it a Category 1

  • Hurricane Irma weakens to tropical depression

    Miami: Irma, the most powerful hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic Ocean, has been downgraded to a tropical depression as it advanced through the southeastern US, the National Hurricane Centre (NHC) announced.  At 11 p.m. (local time), Irma packed maximum sustained winds of up to 55 km per hour and was located 10 km south of Columbus, and 150 km south-southwest of Atlanta, both in the state of Georgia, reports Efe news.
