    Mumbai: The Bombay High Court today sought an explanation from the Maharashtra government over the “gross delay” in demolishing illegal shrines in the state. The government had to raze all unauthorised shrines, built after September 29, 2009, by December 2017. A division bench of Justices A S Oka and M S Sonak was hearing a public interest litigation filed by a city-based NGO, Janhit Manch, seeking action against illegal shrines in the state.

    Mumbai: State nod for building memorials for noted scribes

    Mumbai: The Maharashtra government on Tuesday approved construction of a memorial for Balshastri Jambhekar, considered pioneer of Marathi journalism, at his native place in the coastal Konkan region. Jambhekar had started the Marathi newspaper “Darpan” in 1832. The state government has also accorded an in-principle approval for constructing memorial of Baburao Vishnu Paradkar, eminent Hindi editor and journalist, in his native village in Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra, an official said.
