    Ujjain: The traditional 6 day ‘Uma-sanjhi’ festival will be celebrated in the premises of Mahakaleshwar temple from September 16 to 21. The festival will be inaugurated with ‘ghatsthapana’ in the morning and ‘vasant pooja’ will be performed in evening.

  • Ujjain: Three lakh devotees witness royal splendour of last Shahi Sawari

    Ujjain: Daring bright sun, around three lakh devotees thronged the seven-kilometre Shahi Sawari route for hours to witness the royal grandeur of last Shahi Sawari of Lord Mahakal on Monday. Chandramauleshwar was seated on a silver palanquin while six other forms – Mann-Mahesh on elephant, Shiv Tandav on ‘garud rath’, Uma-Mahesh on Nandi rath, mask of Holkar state on ‘dol rath’ and Ghatatop in chariot – followed it.

    Ujjain: Thousands attended the sawari on the 1st Monday of Bhadra as Lord Mahakal appeared in six forms to visit his subjects. After the traditional worship at ‘sabha-mandap’ at the temple premises, the sawari set off to visit devotees waiting for hours, just to catch a glimpse of the Lord. Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia was also present along with administrative officers during worship.

    Ujjain: Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan visited the Mahakaleshwar temple on the last Monday of Shravan. Accompanied by his wife and son, he performed worship and ‘abhishek’ at the inner sanctum of the temple and prayed for the well being, health and prosperity of the State and country. He also prayed at the Siddhi-Vinayak temple, Bhadrakali temple and Sakshi-Gopal temple situated in the Mahakal temple premises.

    Ujjain: Fifth Sawari of Lord Mahakal will be taken out on Monday. A replica of Lord Mahakal in his Chandramoleshwar avatar will adorn the sawari. His other replicas, including Man-Mahesh, Shiv-Tandav and Uma-Mahesh, too will move with the sawari.

The fourth ‘sawari’ of Mahakal set out with all rituals, pomp and show. At 4pm in the afternoon, worship of Lord Mahakal was performed by priests before setting out the sawari .

    Lord Mahakal will don the look of ‘Uma-Mahesh’ in the 4th Shravan sawari today. ‘Chandramauleshwar’ will be paraded in a palanquin with Mann-Mahesh on an elephant, Shiv-tandav on ‘garud’. Uma-Mahesh himself will be seated on ‘nandi’ chariot. The sawari will begin with a traditional worship in temple premises and follow the usual route before concluding at the Mahakaleshwar temple.

  • Ujjain: Nagpanchami today, gates to remain open till midnight

    Ujjain: The gates of ‘Nagchandreshwar’ temple, which opens only once a year, situated on the 3rd floor of Mahakaleshwar temple, opened on ‘nagpanchami’ for 24 hours. The gate, which opened on Thursday midnight, will close on Friday midnight. Lakhs of devotees pay their visit every year to this temple which holds many ancient legends. Administration has made extensive arrangements for darshan with special facilities for the physically disabled.
