  • Political realignment gathering momentum in poll-bound Telangana

    Hyderabad: Several aspirants for tickets in the coming assembly polls in Telangana have openly expressed their dissatisfaction after being denied the chance to contest, while some others are switching sides leading to re-alignment. The protests by those denied tickets has so far been seen mainly in the ruling TRS as the party released its first list of candidates for 105 seats out of the total 119 assembly segments.

    Enhancing the quota for Muslims and STs will take total reservation in the state to over 50 per cent, the upper limit prescribed by the Supreme Court, thus requiring a constitutional amendment. Muslims, who constitute 12.68 per cent of Telangana’s 3.52 crore population, currently enjoy four per cent quota in education and jobs. The STs, who are 9.34 per cent of the population, are availing six per cent reservation.

    Hyderabad: Telangana Congress today alleged that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is “misguiding” people by claiming that some of the irrigation projects initiated during the erstwhile Congress government, were during his own rule.
