The carrier, which is working on ambitious business plans, on Monday said it would operate the cargo services under the brand name ‘SpiceXpress’ and has a detailed plan for domestic as well as international routes. SpiceJet would be the first schedule domestic airline to start dedicated air cargo services in India.

  • India’s Jinson Johnson snaps 42-year 800m national record

    Guwahati: Middle-distance runner Jinson Johnson created history last evening as he shattered the oldest standing record in Indian athletics at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Guwahati. The 27-year-old from Kerala clocked 1:45.65 seconds to win the gold medal in the men’s 800m event at the 58th National Inter State Championships. In doing so, he erased the 42-year-old mark of 1:45.77 seconds set by Sriram Singh at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal.

  • 908 kg cannabis seized in Assam, two arrested

    Kolkata: Nearly 910 kg of ‘ganja’ (cannabis) has been seized from Guwahati in Assam and two persons have been arrested, an official said on Wednesday. Acting on a tip, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) halted a truck at Khanapara and found 44 packets of ganja weighing 907.95 kg concealed in a makeshift chamber constructed on the top of the body of the truck, the official said.
