    Lahore: A Christian man has been arrested on the charges of blasphemy in Pakistan’s Punjab province. Soon after arresting the suspect the police shifted him to an undisclosed location on the fear that the area people led by religious groups might attack the police station.aa

  • Stringent action against blasphemy

    Christians — seemingly a soft target for communal elements — protested against a blasphemous décor in Goregaon Social pub last week. But, it did not evoke much response from elected representatives of the constituency. The controversy has now died down despite several hundred complaints being repeatedly filed by various groups under Section 295 A of the IPC. This section was introduced to curtail blasphemy and hate speech against any religion or community.

    Islamabad: Thousands of supporters of Mumtaz Qadri, who was hanged for killing liberal Punjab governor Salman Taseer, on Monday besieged the Pakistani capital’s high-security zone demanding that the Islamist assassin be declared a “martyr”.           On Sunday, about 25,000 protesters prayed for Qadri in Rawalpindi, a month after he was hanged for shooting Taseer, and then marched towards Islamabad’s Red Zone, breaking barriers that had been erected.

  • Pak court gives death sentence to man for committing blasphemy

    Lahore: A Pakistani man was today sentenced to death by a court here on charges of committing blasphemy. Additional District and Sessions judge Lahore Naveed Iqbal handed down death sentence to Liaquat Ali after the prosecution produced evidence and witnesses against him. Ali, a resident of Mughalpura area of Lahore, was arrested in 2012 on the complaint of an area prayer leader.
