The most talked and speculated android phone the Xiaomi Redmi 5 is all set to launch in India. The company has sent out media invites for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 launch event scheduled for February 14.
The invite reads, “Xiaomi product launch 2018. You’re invited to join us at Xiaomi’s first launch of 2018.” On the invite which also consists a big “5” written. This may be a not-so-subtle hint that the company could launch the Redmi 5. Simultaneously, there have also been reports in the past that the company was mulling dropping the ‘Note’ branding from its phones.
Xiaomi had launched Redmi 5 in China in December last year. This phone will be the successor to Redmi 4, and the phone is said to fall in Rs 10,000 category. However, given the bezel-less display and large battery as some of its talking points, it will be interesting to see how it changes the game in the affordable range.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5 features a bezel-less HD display with 1440 x 720 pixels. One will run on the Snapdragon 630 chipset, have 3GB RAM and 32GB of onboard storage. The other one will be powered by the Snapdragon 636 chipset, have 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Both the variants are expected to support storage expansion via microSD card.
The device sports a 12MP rear camera with LED flash and a 5MP front shooter for selfies. It packs a 3300mAh battery and offers 4G, VoLTE, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS as connectivity options.
In China the Redmi 5 was launched in in 2GB and 3GB RAM variants priced at CNY 799 (Rs 7,800 approx) and CNY 899 (Rs 8,800 approx) respectively and the company recently launched a 4GB RAM model priced at CNY 1,099 (Rs 11,200 approx). The Redmi 5 Plus is priced at CNY 999 (Rs 9,700 approx) for the 3GB RAM/ 32GB ROM model, whereas its 4GB RAM/ 64GB ROM model’s costs CNY 1,299 (Rs 12,700 approx) in China.
