Mumbai : Just a day after the under-14 high jump record was shattered in Sports for All 2016, the biggest multi-sport school sports event in Mumbai, young Meet Patel set a new mark in the under-16 category.
Patel of Children’s Academy, Malad soared over 1.70 metres to overwrite his own record of 1.67 metres to clinch the gold. Riddhish Bhatt of Children’s Academy, Thakur Complex took the silver by jumping 1.60 metres, while Bhagirath Pokar (also 1.60 metres) of Bal Bharati Public School won the bronze medal on countback.
The athletics events came to an end on the third day of the SFA, with as many as 2500 kids from 250 schools competing in 36 different field and track events here at the SAI Kandivalli on Wednesday. The action gathers momentum in this ambitious tournament with the football competition beginning on Thursday at the Dr DY Patil Stadium, Nerul.
Fifteen-year-old Meet Patel, who is also the under-16 zonal champion in high jump, was the star of the day and his school’s hero as he had helped his team grab the under-16 4X100 metres relay as well. His team took a total of 2.21 minutes to complete the race ahead of St. Lawrence High School (2.23 minutes) and Gopi Birla Memorial Academy (2.26 minutes).
In the boys’ Under-18 1500 metres, Rahul Yadav of Jindal Vidya Mandir raced his way to victory by posting an impressive timing.
