Korbo Lodbo Jeetbo Re! Kolkata Knight Riders were in full form on Thursday as they defeated table-toppers Chennai Super Kings by six wickets at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. It was a comprehensive performance by the KKR and are proving their critics wrong with punching above their weight.

Hi-5 moments from KKR’s win over CSK:

1. Chennai Super Kings’ steady start:

Chennai in this tournament have started slowly but steadily and against Kolkata, Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis again gave a team a good start and added 48 for the first wicket and even slightly out of form Suresh Raina scored 31 off 26 balls. CSK have set the template this season to start cautiously and then explode in the end.

2. Kolkata bowlers being expensive:

KKR have taken a great pride in their bowling this season and especially the spin trio of Sunil Narine, Piyush Chawla, and Kuldeep Yadav have been very economical and difficult to get away.

But, against a rampaging Chennai, all the bowlers came under pressure and apart from Sunil Narine (2/20), every other bowler struggled and former Australian speedster Mitchell Johnson had another bad outing (0/51).

3. What has happened to MS Dhoni?:

Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni is a polarising figure and in this IPL his game has gone to another level. After being criticised for being too slow for T20 cricket in recent past, Dhoni has changed his game completely and again against KKR blasted 43 unbeaten runs, striking four big maximums and helping Chennai post a decent score.

4. Shubman Gill playing well against big boys:

One of the defining moments from the under-19 World Cup in New Zealand, 2018 was Indian batsman Shubman Gill’s class and temperament. Gill played really well in the world cup and when he was acquired by KKR big things were expected from this teenager.

Gill came to the crease after the fall of Robin Uthappa’s wicket and the score was 40/2 and the target was very far. But, Gill batted with composure and in the company of captain Dinesh Karthik scored an enterprising 57 off just 36 balls and also remained unbeaten to take Kolkata home. This innings will do Gill’s confidence a world of good and once the IPL gets over, Gill will be a more rounded and thorough player.

5. Is bowling CSK’s weak link?:

Chennai have been winning most of the matches due to their batting and in that their glaring weakness i.e. bowling has been getting covered. CSK couldn’t defend 178 and it was mainly due to lack of penetration in the bowling.

Chennai doesn’t have big names when it comes to bowling and their bowlers are not fast enough and lack experience. If Chennai really wants to go far in the tournament then their bowling has to buck up because every time your batsmen cannot bail you out.
