IPL 2018: From Chris Gayle, to Andre Russell; 5 West Indian cricketers who are taking the tournament by storm

The famous cash-rich tournament, the Indian Premier League has started with a bang with Best IPL teams locking horns against each other. Till now, we have seen some best finishing matches from the start of the tournament. In the first match between, Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the West Indian all-rounder Dwayne Bravo demolished MI’s bowlers. When there was no hope for CSK, Bravo played an innings which one will remember forever and guided his team to victory.

Be it Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard or Andre Russell, the West Indian players are in demand in T20 leagues across world. The West Indies players are known for their big power hitting abilities. Some powerful batsmen have the ability to hit the best of the bowlers for huge sixes. Like every season, this season too, the West Indies players are making it memorable with their all-around performances. Interesting to note, all these West Indies’ cricketer are in the list of leading run-scorers for this season. Here to check some of the few:

Chris Gayle

In match 12, the Kings XI Punjab hosted Chennai Super Kings, skipper Ashwin made a surprise announcement of big man Chris Gayle playing the match. It was Gayle’s first game of the tournament. Gayle scored a blistering 63 runs from 33 balls. The innings included 4 sixes and 7 fours and helped his team to put 197 on the scoreboard.

Sunil Narine

The quiet man, Sunil Narine was responsible for turning the fortunes of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). He has been integral part of the franchise and was also one of the players who was retained by KKR this season. The highlight of that performance was the dismissal of Shaun Marsh who was bowled by a carom ball in 2015. His bowling wowed almost everyone and he weaved his magic by picking three wickets in quick succession cleaning out Delhi Daredevils lower order.

Andre Russell

Andre Russell from Jamaica is a powerful batsman and is known for pace when bowling. In 2014, Russell was picked by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and is used as a primary finisher for the side. Russell is looked up as a trump card. Powerful Russell has played some really important knocks for the two-time champions in the first five games. In some of the matches, he has shown the world that not only his stroke-making abilities but also his composure which guided KKR home.

Dwayne Bravo

It was Bravo, who has helped his franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to get a roaring start as he smashed 30-ball 68 to help his team one-wicket win over defending champions Mumbai Indians in the tournament opener. When he came out to bat, CSK were struggling at 75 for 5 with asking rate of near 12. He smashed 7 sixes and three fours in his knock of 66 which helped CSK win the match. Bravo is known as one of the most successful all-rounders in IPL.

Evin Lewis

The defending champions Mumbai Indians notched their first win in the ongoing season courtesy to skipper Rohit Sharma’s 94 and West Indian Lewis’ 65. The key for MI this season is Evin Lewis, who has made a strong start to his maiden IPL. Lewis has scored 142 runs in 4 innings at a strike rate on almost 160.
