IPL 2018: 5 things we learned from Sunrisers Hyderabad’s rout of Delhi Daredevils

FOLLOW US:

Yes! Yes! Orange Army i.e. Sunrisers Hyderabad became the first team in IPL 2018 to reach playoffs as they defeated a dejected Delhi Daredevils by nine wickets. The match went according to the script as Delhi fought hard but still fell short amid superlative performances by Shikhar Dhawan and Kane Williamson. With the loss, Delhi are officially out of this year’s IPL and now can only play for pride.

5 takeaways from SRH’s win over DD:

1. Delhi’s terrible start:

Delhi Daredevils began on a disastrous note as they lost their top order cheaply, again! Delhi were tottering at 43/3 and also going at less than six runs per over and again the change in the opening partnership (Jason Roy replacing Colin Munro) didn’t help the matters much and the continuing failure of the top order has been one of the reasons for Delhi’s terrible season.

2. Rishabh Pant’s coming of age innings:

We all know that Delhi youngster Rishabh Pant is very talented and on Thursday he proved his class with a monstrous knock of 128 off 63 balls, hitting seven sixes and all this while remaining unbeaten. The way Pant attacked Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Rashid Khan was marvellous and this innings will surely give Pant confidence and it will reaffirm that he belongs at the international level and despite Delhi’s dismal season, Pant has turned a corner and his India recall is not far away.

3. SRH bowlers having a terrible day:

SRH as a team prides themselves on being the most economical bowling unit and in this season they have proved themselves time and again. But, amid Pant’s carnage, Hyderabad bowlers lost their nerve and folded under pressure.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar was taken to the cleaners by Pant and he ended with figures of 1/51 in four overs and SRH got a reality check ahead of the business end of the tournament.

4. Williamson-Dhawan show:

Sunrisers are not known for their batting prowess, but captain Kane Williamson and Shikhar Dhawan put on a show against DD and added an unbeaten 176 runs for the second wicket, with Dhawan scoring 92* and Williamson scoring 83*.

The magnificent performance by the duo completely demoralised Delhi Daredevils and SRH would be pretty happy with their batsmen finally coming to the party.

5. The same old story for DD:

It was same old story for DD as they got knocked out of yet another IPL season and in spite of having big names, the team didn’t gel well and again lost out for the knockouts. Delhi bowlers tried their level best, but amid Dhawan-Williamson fireworks, they had no answer and after the Gautam Gambhir saga, it was the last thing that Delhi needed and will have to hope for better luck in IPL 2019.
