Rohit Sharma’s outburst to MSD’s DRS gesture: IPL 10’s bizarre controversies

Every year, besides dazzling array of boundaries, sixes and instances of fielding and bowling brilliance, the Indian Premier League also has its fair share of infield as well as off-field controversies. Be it the infamous slap-gate incident involving S Sreesanth and Harbhajan Singh, the ugly on-field spat between like Gautam Gambhir vs Virat Kohli, Mitchell Starc vs Kieron Pollard or spot-fixing. The IPL has over the years, has grabbed the headlines for the wrong reasons. Here’s taking a look at some of the most talked about controversies from 2017 tournament:

    Pollard's short run

    The big West Indian has been accused of cheating and deliberately taking a short run in order to retain the strike and give Mumbai Indians the best chance of chasing down Kings XI Punjab's target of 231. While the commentators called it “cheeky“, he was accused of cheating by many fans.

    Sehwag's angry outburst at Maxwell

    When Kings XI's batting collapsed against the Rising Pune in their do or die match, Sehwag said that captain Glenn Maxwell and other foreign players like Shaun Marsh were disappointing and that as international cricketers, they should not blame the pitch as an excuse. On the other hand, commentator Kevin Pietersen slammed the England and Wales Cricket Board's decision to recall players like Ben Stokes just before the IPL playoffs, considering there is still time before England play their international match. Pietersen asked whether these players were asked to go to Spain for a few beers!

    MSD's DRS gesture

    Sarcasm doesn't always work with match officials. After umpire turned down what looked like a plumb LBW against Kieron Pollard, MSD showed the DRS sign to the umpire to which he was later reprimanded by the match referee.

    Baseless allegations against Virat

    A photograph of Virat and sports presenter Archana Vijaya went viral on social media and a section of the media claimed that Kohi was staring at her ripped jeans with all sort of derogatory things being said against the Indian skipper. An upset Archana later clarified that Virat was actually looking at the cue card in her hand while answering a few rapid fire questions.

    Bhajji blasts pitch curator

    After more than 450 runs were scored during the match between Mumbai Indians and Kings XI at the Wankhede, Harbhajan sarcastically tweeted that the pitch curator should be named as the man-of-the-match.

    Rohit's argument with umpire

    Umpiring is not an easy job, but some wrong decisions have cost the teams dearly. Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma was visibly upset when the umpire didn't signal a wide during the last over of a match against Rising Pune Supergiant and had a lengthy argument that affected his concentration.
