Pune: Indian Super League football franchise team FC Pune City today announced the beginning of their community engagement festival — ‘Forces Of Football’. As part of its initiative for development of football in Pune via mass participation, the Rajesh Wadhawan Group and Hrithik Roshan co-owned team would conduct football tournaments for different levels, a media release said today.
FC Pune City CEO Gaurav Modwel said that besides creating awareness about the club, such an initiative would also bring football enthusiasts at all levels on one common ground. “We need to align and integrate all the forces of football to catapult Pune City into a new bastion of Indian football. Ours is a young city and no doubt with huge talent potential, need of the hour is to provide platforms for nurturing the talent and exhibit it,” Modwel said.
“As a starter, we want more than 5,000 people from various clubs, corporates, schools and colleges to play under one roof,” he added. Three layered tournaments are to be conducted as part of the programme — starting with 5-a-side tourney for all clubs registered with the Pune District Football Association (PDFA).
“This tournament will bring out all PDFA registered players representing their own clubs. The draws will be random and pitch clubs from all the different divisions can be pitched against one another,” the release said. This is to be followed by six-a-side tournaments for corporate employees and a five-a-side open tournament for players from any club, corporates or any walk of life.
“We felt that to add more volume to our ever-increasing fan base, we need to create platforms where we can directly get in touch with football enthusiasts at all levels and showcase them our commitment. Nothing better than bringing them all together and play the sport actually,” said club’s co-owner and Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan.
FC Pune City aims to make this an annual feature every year and the first edition is to be held on every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from August 29 till the end of September. The winners are to get gifts and cash prize as well as an opportunity to meet the club’s players.
