Djokovic outmuscles gutsy Murray to win fifth Oz Open title

Melbourne: World number one Novak Djokovic trounced his British opponent Andy Murray in a pulsating four-set thriller to clinch his fifth Australian Open title in Melbourne.

Top seed Djokovic overcame his British opponent Murray with a hard-fought 7-6 (7-5), 6-7(4-7), 6-3, 6-0 victory to win his eighth Grand Slam title.

Losing the first set, Murray showed glimpses of resilience as he fought back stoutly to win the second set.


Trailing 0-2 in the third set, Djokovic bounced back strongly to win 12 of the next 13 games, sealing victory on his second match point in three hours and 40 minutes.

While Djokovic smashed 53 winners, the Briton could only fire 41 winners during the match.
