Mumbai: Dena Bank emerged Super Division champions of the MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) League – 2013-14. The bankmen drew 1-1 with Wellingdon Catholic Gymkhana (WCG) in their concluding ‘Super-Six’ play-off match at the St. Xavier’s ground, Parel.
The one point earned from the draw, was sufficient for Dena Bank finish with the maximum number of 11 points (three wins and two draws) in the six-team play-offs, which helped them to clinch the top honours.
Karnatak Sporting Association (KSA) who defeated St. Sebastian 2-0 in the last match, claimed the runners-up spot with 10 points with three wins and a draw. KSA’s hopes of pole position were dented after their 1-4 defeat to Air India Under-19 in the penultimate round.
However, both Dena Bank and Karnatak SA have now earned promotion to the Elite Division, the top tier of the local league, from next season. The Air India youngsters were placed third with nine points.
Super Div play-off: KSA 2 (Pawan Singh Rawat, Merwyn Fernandes) beat St. Sebastian 0.
Dena Bank 1 (Valentine Pereira) drew with Wellindon Catholic Gymkhana 1 (Saumil D).
