Halle (Germany): Second seeds Rohan Bopanna and Florin Mergea struggled past Marin Draganja and Henri Kontinen in two tight sets to make it to the semifinals of the Gerry Weber Open, here today. The Indo-Romanian pair won 7-6 (4) 7-6 (3) after battling hard for one hour and 22 minutes against the Croat-Finn pair in the quarterfinals of the Euro 169,6645 grass court tournament.

Such was the quality and intensity of the match that there was no break of serve in the entire match. Bopanna and Mergea did not get any break chance in the opening set but they saved three breakpoints on their serve to take lead via tie-breaker.

In the second set, the two pairs had one chance each for the break of serve but they did not succeed and eventually it was too decided through a tie-breaker in which the second seeds prevailed. Bopanna and his partner next face the American pair of Eric Butorac and Scott Lipsky. They came into this event after winning the Merecedes Cup, last week.
