Mumbai : A determined Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar defeated a strong Mumbai University side to win the title at the all India inter University women’s cricket tournament organized by University of Mumbai and Rizvi college under the aegis of MCA. Put into bat at the Police Gymkhana, Amritsar’s opener Nikita Chouhan scored a steady 41 off 62 balls to see off the new ball. Middle order batter Neelam Bisht capitalised on the start as she batted splendidly scoring an unbeaten 79 off just 69 balls with twelve boundaries and a six. She stitched together a crucial partnership of 98 runs for the fourth wicket with skipper Parveen Khan as Amritsar posted a strong total of 185 losing six wickets. Mumbai got off to a decent start but, lost their way in the chase. Bhakti Tamore (41) and Mugdha Joshi (42) could not convert their starts as Mumbai fell short by 45 runs to lose the final. The Mumbai team lost four wickets by way of run outs which hurt them the most.
