BHOPAL: The Shahdol forest division has entered the Guinness Book of World Records by planting 60 lakh saplings on Monday. Forest minister Sartaj Singh launched the mega campaign by planting a sapling at Diyapeepar village in Gohparo development block in Shahdol district. Minister of state for forests Jai Singh Marawi and officers of Shahdol division and the forest department were present on the occasion.
The saplings were planted at 44,000 places in about 1,000 villages of the division. Singh appealed to the people and the forest department to look after these saplings for sometime so that they can grow into trees.
He said the state government took several steps to boost plantation drive. Khamer, which equal of Sagon, has been exempted from transport permit. The forest minister inspected the plantation work at Karri village and a planted a sapling there. Chief conservator of forests Satyam said preparations for the mega campaign were made for the past 11 months.
People were asked to plant saplings on private land outside the forest areas. So, 1.50 lakh people of Shahdol division’s 3 districts – Shahdol, Umaria and Anuppur – participated in the campaign. Forest ministerSartaj Singh planting a sapling on Monday.
