Jammu and Kashmir, J&K, arrested

Mumbai: After three years of investigation by the Pune Crime Investigation Department, Shravan Bawane, former Managing Director of the Annabhau Sathe Development Corporation was arrested at Rajkot in Gujarat. Bawane was absconding for almost around three years and is wanted in 11 cases along with the multi-crore scam in the state-owned corporation.

The kingpin of the mega scam, Ramesh Kadam, sacked legislator of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is in jail. “Bawane has been accused of colluding with Kadam. Police are hopeful that Bawane’s arrest will shed new light on the case and might open up new leads in the case. Now Bawane would be paraded to all the places where cases have been filed against him. The then managing director Ingle, who held the charge before Bawane, was arrested almost a year ago.

Kadam had looted the corporation meant for welfare of backward classes in collusion with Bawane. The police have almost completed probe with Kadam. Now, they will try to find out from Bawane as to who else were involved in the siphoning of funds, said the sources.
During the probe, the police also came across the fact that Kadam was never awarded status of a Minister of State, yet he used to move around in a car flashing red beacon.

Some of the major cases against Bawane include a case at Borivali police station with regard to siphoning of Rs 312 crore; A similar case at Bhandara of Rs 27.65 crore, cases at Buldhana (Rs 12 crore and Rs 1.86 crore); Another case at Jalna of Rs 11 crore, some more cases at Beed, Parbhani, Hingoli of Rs 20 crore; that apart there are some more cases of car distribution as well as misappropriation of Rs 5 crore at Solapur.
