    Ujjain: A yoga session was held in premises of Government Madhav College. Yoga expert Manohar Sharma, Virendra Guliya and MG Supekar were special guests.The programme was presided over by principal Dr BS Makkad. Principal of Government Law College Dr SN Sharma was the chief guest.

    Ujjain: Several organizations held group yoga sessions across the district to mark International Yoga Day on Wednesday. Students of government and private schools participated in large numbers. A district level programme of yoga was organised in premises of Kalidas Academy by district education department. Messages of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan were also read out.

    Ujjain: Ujjain Municipal Corporation on Wednesday intensified demolition drive for widening of roads in Kartik chowk. Municipal commissioner Ashish Singh visited the area to take stock of progress. Despite expressing reservations over timing, residents are cooperating with the drive.

    Ujjain: World Music Day was celebrated in unique way with 12-hour-long marathon performance by over 200 budding and established local artists at Sankul hall, Kalidas Academy. Ujjain has a rich history of music artists, prominent among them are world famous Dhrupad singers Umakant Gundecha and Ramakant Gundecha, popularly known as Gundecha bothers.

  • Ujjain: UMC launches road-widening project amid public outcry

    Ujjain: Work to widen roads of Kartik-Chowk area, the official path of Lord Mahakal procession (Mahakal Sawari Marg) began on Tuesday in the holy month of Shravan. Irate residents staged dharna against demolition drive for widening of roads and demanded compensation for buildings razed to ground for it. They also wanted Ujjain Municipal Corporation (UMC) to postpone the work till the end of monsoon.

    Ujjain: With onion procurement going on in full swing all across Madhya Pradesh, in order to rein middlemen involvement in the business, district administration instructed procurement officers not to accept onion from a person if he brings his crop in a truck or in Eichers.

    Ujjain: Lions Club holy city organised ‘swachhata samman samaroh’ on Tuesday. Club honoured mayor Meena Jonwal and Ujjain Municipal Corporation speaker Sonu Gehlot for leading the city to the 12th place on the list of cleanest cities of India. Social worker Bamshankar Joshi was given life line achievement award and chairman of MIT group Praveen Vashishtha was felicitated for being appointed state vice president of badminton association.

    Ujjain: Ujjain Municipal Corporation has planned a cattle shed in village Ratnakhedi near village Chintaman. However, the project has been opposed by villagers. They alleged that the UMC had grabbed the land of poor in the name of cattle shed.
