Railway employee jumps out of running train, dies
  • India

  • Feb 23, 2012

THANE De Lucas, a railway employee working at a car shed at Mumbai Central used to travel daily by train to and fro his home in Kalyan.

He tried to alight from the Bhubaneswar- Mumbai Konark Express at Kalyan station.

As the train approached the platform number five, Lucas who was standing near the door, jumped, took hardly three steps, lost his balance and fell with one of his feet between the train and the platform. He held fast the door of the train, but in the next two seconds, his other foot and his torso slipped into the gap between the platform and the train.

A man watching this ran and tried to pull out Lucas, but by that time he had been crushed under the moving trains'wheels. De Lucas died on the spot.

This six- second footage is a reminder about the need for precaution while boarding or alighting from a running train.
