The traffic near Byculla bridge moved at snails pace and locals were in for a high voltage drama after a 35- year- old woman climbed a hoarding threatening to commit suicide on Wednesday afternoon. Soon after the officers of JJ Marg police station and Mumbai fire brigade rushed to the spot to convince her to give up the idea. After a two- hourlong drama, she was finally convinced and asked to come down.

It was third such attempt when Sapna Pereira ( 35) climbed the hoarding and created a scene for the people. Some of the onlookers stated that all the while she was abusing the government and was refusing to get down. The woman, a resident of Indira Nagar slums in Vile Parle, climb the 80 feet tall hoarding at around 11am by stairs that were on the rear side of the hoarding.

Earlier, Pareira had attempted suicide out of the MHADA office in 2010 after she failed to get a flat in their lottery. In 2011, she had attempted a similar feat by threatening to jump from a tower in Thane allegedly, as she did not get any response from the Prime Ministers Office. She had asked for financial help to the central government to operate on her visually impaired daughter in the US. Rajesh Dhanawade, senior police inspector of JJ Marg police said, " We will think if any action should be taken against her later.

First, she will be examined if she has sustained any injuries." On Wednesday, the fire officials finally managed to involve her in talks and succeeded to get her down with the help of a ladder. Soon after she was rushed to the JJ Hospital for medication.
