Non- payment of fee subsidy to ST medical student A double bench of justices KK Lahoti and Vimala Jain took a note on the state government officials, who did not respond even after 11 hearings

OUR STAFF REPORTER BHOPAL The Jabalpur High Court, on Wednesday, asked the state government to pay a cost of Rs 5000 for not replying to the notices on a petition of scheduled tribe candidates seeking fee waiver in medical course in an Indore- based private college, said sources.

A double bench of justices KK Lahoti and Vimala Jain took a note on the state government officials, who did not respond even after 11 hearings.

The court said, hearing was adjourned 11 occasions, but the state government did not respond.

" While asking the state government to pay the cost of Rs 5000, the court also asked the order to be sent to the Secretary through deputy advocate general," said petitioners counsel Aditya Sanghi.

Eleven MBBS students belonging to scheduled tribe, who got admission in Aurobindo Medical College of Indore, in the year 2008, moved the court against the state governments refusal to reimburse their fee.

In the year 2005, the state government had issued a circular to provide fees to the medical students of reserved category but later, but when it cames to execution of the order, the state government declined to keep its promise.

The students said, they got admission in private college on high fee only considering the state governments circular.

They paid Rs 1.20 lakh fee per annum to the private college.

The court has set next hearing on March 14.
