Jail inmates get '10 for six- hour work

BHOPAL: The government may make tall claims about initiating reforms among prisoners in jail, but the fact is human rights violation is at its peak in the jails where. An inmate is given remuneration of Rs 10 for doing agriculture work for six hours.

While a skilled worker gets Rs 27 per day, an unskilled worker in jail gets Rs 21 per day for the work.

This information was given by jail minister Jagdish Deora, replying to a written question by Premnarayan Thakur. Deora said half of the remuneration given to the prisoners is deposited in the bank. Deora said during the past 30 years, the remuneration of prisoners has been increased thrice.
