NEW DELHI: Taking serious note of a sting operation telecast by India TV showing candidates in Uttar Pradesh election collecting bribe from the corporates, the Election Commission on Saturday sought an urgent promulgation of an Ordinance to make it a cognizable offence under the Indian Penal Code ( IPC), " as the matter is quite serious." In its " Operation MLA" sting telecast on the Republic Day, the TV channel showed some of the persons aspiring to be the candidates belonging to various political parties claim that they procure bribe from the corporates for their poll expenditures.
