Mumbai : The State government has decided to waive off toll tax for the ST buses ferrying Konkan-bound devotees of Lord Ganesh. The decision was taken at a meeting with PWD minister Chandrakant Patil, MoS finance Deepak Kesarkar and other top officials, transport minister Diwakar Raote told reporters after the meeting.
Of the 2,300 buses made available, over 2,000 buses have been completely booked. The transport department has formed 16 teams of officials to ensure smooth flow of the traffic, the minister said. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has assured toll waiver on National Highways, he added. Of these 2,300 buses 1,400 buses being employed for the Kumbha Mela at Nashik would come to Mumbai on one single day of September 14. The officials have been asked to plan the traffic accordingly, the minister added. Ganesh Chaturthi is on September 17 and the devotees are expected to start moving towards their villages in Konkan from around September 10.
