Thane: Robbers strike at Krishna shrine on Janmashtami eve

THANE: While the devout were getting ready to celebrate Janmashtami festival, jewellery worth lakhs was stolen from a 150-year-old lord Krishna temple in Thane. The robbers decamped with gold and silver ornaments along with some cash worth of Rs 35 lakh. The incident took place in Jambhali market in Thane on Saturday night when some unidentified persons broke into the temple from the back side. They tweaked the CCTV cameras installed in temple and decamped with the ornaments.

A complaint was registered at Thane Nagar police station after the temple pundit noticed that the lock of the temple door had been prised open and some jewellery and cash was missing. “We are going through the CCTV footage of nearby shops. The police suspect that the robbers had done a recce of the temple before breaking in.
