Sangli: Sangli police are going to book couples who have done abortion procedure at Bharti Hospital in Mhaisal village run by Dr Babasaheb Khidrapure where illegal sex selection and abortion racket was being run. If couples are proven to be undergone abortion they will be booked under foeticide charges.

One of the police official said, “Sangli police on March 5 had found 19 foetuses buried near stream in Mhaisal village. Seven foetuses are sent to Sassoon Hospital Pune for DNA tests to find out whether aborted foetuses were male or female. Remaining foetuses are decomposed completely and are not in condition to be tested. We have done enquiry of couples whose names were registered in records at the hospital of Khidrapure. And after DNA reports come in we will find out couples who had done abortion procedure here. Their DNA tests will be carried out and if they found guilty of doing abortion, they will be booked under charges of foeticide. Thus seven more charges will be added in Khidrapure’s case.”

Meanwhile, Miraj court gave magisterial custody to three arrested. Till now police has arrested 13 people.
