Mumbai: Allowing a complaint against Girish Bapat, the minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection, on Friday, the State’s Lokayukta, Justice (retd) Madanlal Tahilayani has issued notice to the minister for his alleged ‘inaction’ in controlling the rise in prices of pulses.
The complaint filed on behalf of Mumbai Grahak Panchayat’s (MGP) chairman, alleges that being the minister, Bapat has failed and neglected the rise in the prices of tur and urad dal during the period from April to November, 2015.
The complainant has also named Deepak Kapoor, the then (2015) Principal Secretary along with Bapat.
After hearing the complainant, Justice (retd) Tahilayani noted that the complainants have made out a ‘strong’ prima facie case against Bapat and Kapoor.
Posting the next hearing on July 26, Justice (retd) Tahilayani has directed Bapat and Kapoor to file their replies in response to the said complaint.
