Pune: 25 senior citizens injured in road mishap


Pune: Over 25 senior citizens sustained minor injuries on Sunday as the mini bus they were travelling in met with an accident near Khandala on Pune Mumbai old highway.

Thirty senior citizens who are members of Ekta Yoga Trust, Poona Cambridge Vidyalaya and Senior Citizens Group, were going for a pilgrimage to Gagangiri Maharaj Ashram in Khopoli  at 6 am in the morning. On the way from Pune to Khopoli, breaks of the bus got failed and the driver lost his control over wheels and the bus fell into a gorge. However, the bus got stuck on a big trunk of a tree.

S N Shinde, Police Inspector, Khopoli, said, “We got a call in the morning that a mini bus hit a tree at Saimad village in Khopoli on old Pune Mumbai Highway (NH4). Though the accident was not major the bus got damaged completely and 25 people got minor injuries. They were first taken to Government Hospital in Khopoli and later moved to Lokmanya Hospital in Nigdi Pune.”

Satyajit Shinde, one of the passengers said, “We were going to Gagangiri Maharaj Ashram for one day trip.  Fortunately nobody got serious injuries.”
