MUMBAI – The Nationalist Congress Party today announced candidature of former Union minister Praful Patel for the Rajya Sabha.
The NCP has nominated Patel for the seat vacated by party leader Tariq Anwar, who was recently elected to the Lok Sabha from the Katihar constituency.
On Jun 5, Patel will file his nomination at the Vidhan Bhavan, the state legislature, said a party release.
By-elections to fill up the seven vacant seats in the Rajya Sabha will be held on Jun 19, according to the Election Commission of India’s website.
The by-elections were notified today and the last date for filing nominations is Jun 9.
Patel lost the Lok Sabha elections from the Bhandara-Gondiya constituency in Maharashtra.
A decision on Patel’s candidature was taken today during the party’s parliamentary board meeting.
