Mumbai: A 45-year-old woman from Madanpura at Agripada has filed a police complaint alleging that her hair was mysteriously chopped off while she was asleep. In her complaint, Farida Shaikh said that when she woke up around 2 am, she found that some of her hair was chopped off.
Shaikh’s allegations follow close on the heels of the recent cases reported from different parts of Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh of women’s braids being mysteriously chopped off when they were asleep.
According to Ashok Sarambalkar, Senior Police Inspector, Agripada police, “There was no one at Shaikh’s home and the room was locked from inside while she was sleeping. She was accompanied by her brother-in-law Akbar when she approaches us.We have recorded the statement of the victim. After the inquiry is completed, a First Information Report (FIR) will be registered.”
However, the Agripada police could not confirm if it was a mischief by a culprit or a mere superstition or a fake case. On August 8, Parya Qureshi (24) and her sister-in-law Mahek Qureshi (23) lodged a similar complaint with the Nizampura police at Bhiwandi stating that their hair were chopped off at night by an unknown person while they were sleeping at night.
Since July, the police in western Rajasthan are at their wit’s end trying to solve cases where families have complained that the hair of girls and women are being cut with no suspect being held so far. On July 5, a 13-year old girl Asha Meghwal, a resident of Phalodi in Jodhpur district complaint saying that someone chopped off a thick bunch of her hair when she was asleep.
