Mumbai: Newly married Ketaki Vinayak Gavande (28) committed suicide by jumping to her death from the 23rd floor of Twin Towers, a residential high-rise, at Prabhadevi on Monday. Ketaki was undergoing treatment for depression for the last seven years. She was married two months ago and visiting her parents for a day.
Her mother and the domestic help were present when Ketaki jumped from the bedroom of flat number 231, A- Wing. Ketaki’s father had just left the premises to go to his office. According to the police, Ketaki used to visit her parents frequently.
Diwakar Shelke, Senior Police Inspector, Dadar police station, said, “No suicide note was found in the flat. Ketaki’s parents informed us that she was undergoing psychiatric treatment for depression for the last seven years.” She was alone in the bedroom when she jumped from the bedroom window after opening the air-conditioning grill. Her mother, who was in another room, realised something was amiss when she heard a thud.
It was Ketaki’s husband Vinayak who informed the police about the incident. Vinayak, who works for an ad agency, had dropped his wife at her parents’ place on Monday morning and had planned to pick her up in the evening. Ketaki’s father owns a Chartered Accounting firm. Vinayak was also aware of her condition. She was a home maker and had completed her Master of Arts (MA).
Shelke added, “Ketaki’s parents have informed us that they were aware of her depression and do not blame anyone for the suicide. We have registered an Accidental Death Report and are investigating the matter and trying to deduce the reason for her depression. We are also investigating if she had made any attempts to commit suicide earlier. ”
