Mumbai: The body of a 65-year-old woman was found near the railway tracks at Ghatkopar on Wednesday morning. This incident comes only a day after the fire broke out inside the luggage compartment near Ghatkopar on Tuesday night.

The woman has been identified as Laxmi Swami, who was a resident of Kurla. Swami was allegedly travelling on the same Khopoli- Chhtrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) train wherein an incident of fire was reported on Tuesday night.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) officials said the woman’s body was found on the railway tracks near platform number 6 of Ghatkopar station.

“We suspect that the deceased might have jumped off the train to save herself after she witnessed the fire from the luggage compartment. As we found severe head injuries on her, it is suspected that a mail express train might have hit her after she jumped off the train,” said Samadhan Pawar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, GRP.

Kurla GRP has registered an Accidental Death Report. Railway police sources said the deceased boarded the train from Badlapur and was on her way back home.
