Mumbai: University launches virtual classrooms, to live stream lectures in 40 rural, and, suburban colleges

The University of Mumbai will soon live-stream lectures in 40 colleges with limited resources. These colleges are identified from suburban areas of Mumbai, Thane and Ratnagiri.

The programme is a part of the university’s virtual classroom project that delivers lectures in 400 colleges, mostly in the city, affiliated with the university. The curriculum currently delivers lectures, workshops and seminars.

The University will look after the one-time cost, Rs 3.5 lakh to 4 lakh, of installing the virtual classroom units in the affiliated colleges. Subsequently, the annual maintenance of Rs 1.2 lakh, will have to be taken care of by the concern colleges. Mumbai University’s technical committee will handle the technical details and set guidelines for the new programme. An agency has assigned the task of coordinating with the colleges and the University and also to look after the functioning of the programme.

The application of the programme has been passed in collaboration of management and academic council. The selected colleges have already been informed while the University is awaiting their response.
