Mumbai: Unable to find job, depressed man gives up; commits suicide at Bandra skywalk

Mumbai: In an unfortunate incident, a 36-year-old man, who migrated to Mumbai from West Bengal in search of a job, was found hanging from an iron pillar in the public skywalk in Bandra West. The victim was identified as Samshuddin Purkai. According to police, Samshuddin committed suicide as he was depressed after unable to find a job in Mumbai.

Samshuddin used abandoned cable wires to hang himself to death. He was living in a rented house in Shastri Nagar in Bandra. Now, police is trying to locate his brother, who works in Mumbai as a zari worker.

On Tuesday morning at 6:30 pm, police received a call informing about a man hanging from the empty gap between the iron rods of the skywalk, next to Bandra Jama Masjid. Police immediately rushed to the spot and took the man down. Police took him to the Bhabha Hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival.


“Investigations revealed that the deceased was unemployed and had moved to Mumbai in search for a job. He wanted to work as a zari worker like his brother,” said a police officer to Mumbai Mirror. The officer added, “His brother told us that he was looking for a job but was unable to find one. No suicide note has been recovered as of now.”
