Mumbai: Two arrested for duping man of Rs 93 lakh by offering railway job

Mumbai: The Mata Ramabai Ambedkar (MRA) Marg police have arrested two persons on Thursday night for duping victims by promising jobs through railway defence quota. As per the instructions from Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Railways, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered on August 20.

The accused Rufus Dabre (38), an insurance agent and his accomplice Manjeet Singh Chilotre (46), a real estate agent and mastermind of the scam have been arrested for cheating (Sections 419 and 420) of the Indian Penal Code. Dabre was arrested from Vasai while Chilotre was arrested from Delhi. During investigation, it has been found that the accused have duped seven victims across the country by collecting total Rs 45 lakh from the victims.

In January, the Railways had issued an advertisement for recruitment at the Railway Defence Board. On the pretext of providing jobs under the special quota, Dabre deceived the candidate and extracted Rs 93 lakh from him. The investigations were conducted by the police after the Railway Minister Piyush Goyal had received an email from a complainant regarding a racket operating a scam by offering jobs. According to Abhishek Trimukhe, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 1, “As per the instructions from the Railway Ministry, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered by Pravin Gedam. During investigation, it was found that Chilotre and Dabre had duped the victim to the tune of Rs. 93 lakh.”


Dabre is a resident of Vasai while Chilotre is a resident of Malad. They were produced before the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate at the Esplanade court.
