Mumbai: Social activist Anjali Damania lodged an FIR against senior BJP leader Eknath Khadse

Social activist and former AAP leader Anjali Damania had lodged an FIR against former BJP minister Eknath Khadse accusing him of making an “obscene remark” against her at a public rally. A section 509 of IPC has been charged on him. 509 is for to Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman.—Whoever, intending to insult the modesty of any woman, utters any word, makes any sound or gesture, or exhibits any object, intending that such word or sound shall be heard, or that such gesture or object shall be seen, by such woman, or intrudes upon the privacy of such woman, shall be punished with simple imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine, or with both.

Today Khadse responded to Damania’s allegations, a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader remarked that as the winds of elections have once again started blowing the activist who was until now silent has suddenly begun targeting him. Khadse stated that till now he has not met Damania. “I did not take anybody’s name. There are several people in this world with surnames of Damania and Khadse. It has never been my intention to show any disrespect to any woman,” remarked Khadse

Khadse sarcastically remarked that he has become a favourite target of some who get joy out of it. He also wanted to know why Damania was silent over charges of corruption against bureaucrat Radheshyam Mopalwar. Referring to the charges, he said that the investigations into his alleged telephonic conversation with the wife of fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and his Personal Assistant (PA) taking bribes, that his son-in-law purchased a swanky limousine revealed that there was no truth in these allegations.

Commenting on the alleged corruption in purchase of Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) land at Bhosari, near Pune, the senior BJP leader clarified that the land was purchased by his son-in-law. The former BJP minister maintained that his sole source of income was his agricultural farm and that he has been regularly paying income tax and his family has undergone scrutiny from tax authorities.

Referring to Damania’s charge of alleged exponential growth in his annual income, he remarked that the social activist could have lodged a complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI). Khadse added that he was never scared of any probe and pointed out that the investigations into the allegations levelled against him have so far proved nothing.
